Padiham Leisure Centre Celebrates 50th Anniversary
03 Jan 2020
Padiham Leisure Centre celebrated its 50th anniversary in fantastic style.
In November, Padiham leisure centre hosted events such as free fitness classes, inflatable fun sessions and 50p swims.
At the official ceremony, attendees included original staff members who worked at the site 50 years ago along with current members plus guests of honour Mayor of Padiham Council, Howard Hudson and his wife Patricia.
Padiham Leisure Centre started out with just a pool and one dance studio; it has now grown and flourished into a vibrant facility offering over 100 fitness classes per week, swimming and an exceptional gym and cycle studio.
Children from the local Shuttleworth College sang and played the piano for visitors who were also taken on a trip down memory lane thanks to Padiham Archives, which exhibited several photographs charting the history of the centre.
Master classes included our new fitness craze Sh'Bam; a new dance craze at Burnley Leisure. The class was one of the highlights of a weekend of events showcasing what the centre has to offer along with prizes and membership offers.
Operations Manager Sarah Drinkwater said: "I think the key to the success and longevity of Padiham Leisure Centre is the fact we have moved with the times and we listen to what people want.
"As an organisation we strive to do better every day. During the last 50 years the leisure centre has grown in popularity, with the gym undergoing an extensive gym and cycle studio refurbishment which allowed Burnley Leisure to extend on our fitness programme.
"We really do have something for everyone of all ages no matter what your fitness level, there are no boundaries, we pride ourselves on the support and motivation we offer to all our members - our oldest member is 89 and has been coming here for 47 years!"
