Newport Live to use RLSS UK aquatic qualifications
06 Oct 2020
As we mark National Fitness Day today, the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is delighted to welcome Newport Live into their fold.
The Welsh leisure operator has committed to training their staff from the suite of RLSS UK qualifications including the professional lifeguard standard - National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).
The Regional Pool & Tennis Centre, Newport Centre and Active Living Centre - all run by Newport Live - have also committed to becoming RLSS UK Approved Training Centres (from August 2020 through to August 2021) and, in addition, upskill staff as RLSS UK Trainer Assessors.
Newport Live will be improving the breadth of their training by following the qualifications set out by RLSS UK - the industry leader in water-related safety qualifications and training in the UK.
Newport Live delivers sporting, leisure, and cultural activities in the city of Newport and the surrounding area, and runs leisure and cultural facilities including: Newport Centre (an excellent multi-purpose facility in the heart of Newport city centre), Active Living Centre (part of the £28 million Newport High School development), The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Connect Centre and Newport International Sports Village (home of the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, the Regional Pool & Tennis Centre, and Newport Stadium). They also deliver sports and arts development programmes on a city-wide and regional basis.
Neil Sargeant, Director of Operations at Newport Live, said: “We have been impressed by the extent of support provided during lockdown from the Royal Life Saving Society UK and the quality of the training. Providing sporting opportunities to support the health and wellbeing of our customers, and the people of Newport is vital and, we are pleased to be able to upskill our team members and colleagues, to continue to provide safe environments in our facilities.”
“In a normal year, more than 40,000 pool lifeguards qualify with our NPLQ. We are delighted that Newport Live has decided to train all of their lifeguards, through us,” explains Jo Talbot, Commercial Director at RLSS UK.
“Even during COVID-19, we continued to innovate, evolve and support our clients, ensuring they remained at the cutting edge of lifeguarding and water safety for when the industry reopened.
“We are looking forward to working with Newport Live; supporting them in their mission of enhancing their reputation within the leisure sector and offering high-quality opportunities, services and events, that inspire the people of Newport to lead healthier and happier lifestyles.”
