Redbridge residents mesmerised by Museum of the Moon exhibition

06 Oct 2021

Vision RCL were overwhelmed with the fantastic response to their first Redbridge Outdoor Arts event this season. Featuring touring artwork Museum of the Moon by UK artist Luke Jerram.

The trust was honoured to home this astounding piece of artwork at the Walled Gardens at Valentines Mansion Gardens. A perfect location to enhance this exciting experience and interpretation for the 3,000 visitors that came to Valentines on 17-19 September. It was great to see so many families enjoying this wonderful event, which also included walkabout performers and singers.

The views of this installation during day were incredible, the fine details of this artwork were completely realistic. Vision RCL reported, the real showstopper was during the evening, as the sky turned dark visitors were mesmerised by the sheer beauty of this light installation.

About Museum of the Moon
This awe-inspiring installation has travelled all over the world and throughout the year will be visiting places such as the USA and Belgium. We are privileged that Redbridge has now been included on the journey of Museum of the Moon.
The artwork itself measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.

The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones
The artwork was presented by Vision Redbridge Culture & Leisure through a partnership with the Without Walls Consortium and the Circulate London Consortium with funding from Arts Council England.

Redbridge Outdoor Arts
Redbridge Outdoor Arts is an exciting programme of cultural events animating public spaces. Through the programming of high quality, innovative UK and international outdoor arts we aim to attract, engage and inspire local people, creating new and diverse audiences in Redbridge. Presenting free, accessible and welcoming experiences for everyone encourages a sense of civic pride through the shared experience of Outdoor Arts.

Redbridge Outdoor Arts is managed by Vision RCL’s Culture Development Team. The programme is delivered in partnership with Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisation Without Walls through their Touring Network Partnership and the Circulate Outdoor Arts for London consortium.

Funding of both projects comes from the Arts Council of England with funding from Without Walls through their National Portfolio Grant and Project Grants through the Circulate consortium led by Vision RCL.
