New Wellness Hub Opens In Grimsby

06 Oct 2021

A NEW therapy and relaxation hub puts wellbeing at the heart of a Grimsby leisure centre and is safely supporting people back into exercise after 18 months of living through the pandemic.

The Wellness Hub within Grimsby’s Health & Wellbeing Centre has opened after a £180,000 investment, providing a warm welcome to members with three unique zones for exercise, rehabilitation, relaxation and mental wellbeing.

Home to 22 power assisted toning machines – understood to be the largest facility of its kind in the country – the Wellness Hub is an inclusive facility on the ground floor, safe for all age groups and abilities.

Sue Wells, Lincs Inspire chief executive, said: “The arrival of this new Wellness Hub couldn’t have come at a better time as we play a vital role in supporting people who are easing back into exercise following the pandemic, not to mention assisting those living with the effects of long COVID.

“Our investment in this community facility contributes significantly to our charitable aims and we are incredibly grateful to Sport England and North East Lincolnshire Council who have also provided important funding and trusted in our vision.

“We look forward to seeing both our existing customers and new members enjoying and benefiting from this new home for holistic wellness.”

The ground floor facility includes three rooms for power assisted equipment, both chairs and recumbent beds, along with a Lifestyle studio for low impact classes such as Tai Chi and chair-based classes. The facility also features an improved accessible toilet facility and a private space for one-to-one discussions and support.

Supporting members who have been referred from a health care professional, or by those who have made direct contact with Lincs Inspire’s wellbeing team, the Wellness Hub is ideal for rehabilitation, those not used to intensive regular exercise, and people who are living with long-term medical conditions such as a stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, arthritis and Fibromyalgia, as well as those recovering from joint surgery to name but a few.

The centre’s existing toning suite chairs and beds have been moved from their previous home on the first floor into the Wellness Hub. They have been enhanced with additional revolutionary equipment, which uses an electronic power system.

The unique exercise machines, central to the Wellness Hub, are manufactured in the UK by Shapemaster and are designed to provide a ‘helping hand’ in a low impact, full-body workout circuit. Customers can work passively or actively depending on their physical condition or ability.

Cllr Callum Proctor, portfolio holder for economic development, housing, and tourism from North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m really pleased to see the wellness hub opening at a time when many need it more than ever.

“It’s been great to see the work progressing on what will be an incredibly valuable resource for our local residents. The impact that a facility like this can have is difficult to put into words and I’m really glad that we could help make this vision become a reality.”
