Sport Aberdeen hail re-opening of new ‘energy-efficient’ pool

Sport Aberdeen and Aberdeen City Council have confirmed that the newly refurbished Bucksburn Swimming Pool will reopen to the public later this month.
Venue operator Sport Aberdeen has announced a reopening date of Monday, June 15th, with early years swimming lessons and public sessions forming part of the reopening, ahead of an official opening ceremony planned for late June.
The reopening marks the completion of a year-long refurbishment programme, delivered by Morrison Construction following their appointment in June 2025. Initial works included a full internal strip-out, drainage improvements, and new foundations for an upgraded plant enclosure.
Over the past 12 months, the building has undergone extensivee upgrades to create a modern, inclusive, and energy-efficient community swimming facility.
The works included a new feature lantern rooflight at the main entrance replacing the curved canopy and rooflight. Works to the pool hall include new tiling, spectator seating, lighting, and decoration. A new larger accessible changing facility accesses the main the reception area. There has also been significant investment in new plant equipment to improve the building’s overall efficiency which included building a small extension.

The reopening of a much-loved community facility will provide even more opportunities for people to enjoy active and healthy lifestyles as we continue our work to strengthen wellbeing and support inclusion for the people of Aberdeen.”
Craig Innes, Chief Officer for Commercial and Procurement Services, Aberdeen City Council, said: “The reopening of Bucksburn Swimming Pool is a significant milestone and a great example of investment in community infrastructure. We would like to thank residents for their patience during the works and look forward to seeing the pool back at the heart of community life.”
Over the past year, Morrison Construction has delivered a host of local benefits, including donations to community groups, volunteering in local schools, career sessions at Bucksburn Academy, and contributions to local activities.
The project has also seen collaboration with local youngsters who have designed artwork for display in the facility’s public areas.
