Do you have a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification?

Would you like to work in one of our fantastic leisure Centres across the city?

This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and customer focussed Leisure Centre Attendants to become a valued member of the new service team and play a key role in transforming the Council’s approach to Sport, Leisure and Exercise.

You'll play an active role in ensuring our customers are safe and provide a welcoming environment when using our facilities.

After 3 years of delivering year on year improvements Sports Services now have in place ambitious plans to ‘step up the service’ to take us to the next level. Exciting plans for capital improvement have been approved and the Service is growing in confidence and ambition to continue the next phase of transformation and improvement.

Based at one of our busy Active Leicester centres, you’ll be required to work on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

We have the following vacancies:-

Full-time position working 37 hours per week at Cossington Street Sports Centre

Part-time position working 18 hours per week at Spence Street Sports Centre

Part-time position working 27 hours per week at Aylestone Leisure Centre

Part-time position working 13 hours per week at New Parks Leisure Centre

These are fixed term positions for 6 months and may be subject to change in terms of hours and locations. The full-time salary for this position is £18,562 - £18,933 per annum but will be pro-rata in accordance with part-time hours.


As a Leisure Centre Attendant, you’ll assist with the day to day running of the facility, provide the highest standard of customer service whilst ensuring the health and safety of customers.

This will include being responsible for pool supervision ensuring bathers are safe and follow rules to prevent accidents and vandalism.

You’ll undertake remedial cleaning of the building such as maintaining clean changing rooms and poolside as well as set up/take down of equipment for activities.

As a strong swimmer, you’ll respond to pool emergencies.


As a confident swimmer, you’ll have a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or be willing to undertake this course after completing a swim test and within the first week of starting.

With a good understanding of health & safety you'll be able to identify risks and be prepared to continue training on a monthly basis to keep your Lifeguard qualification live.

With previous experience of working in a customer service environment, you’ll have good communication skills to be able to effectively liaise with other staff and centre users.
