SPORTS CLUB MANAGER

Salary: c£30,000 - £32,000+pa
Location: Hounslow, West London

The Middlesex Badminton Dome was built in 1985 by a group of badminton enthusiasts with the support of Badminton England and the London Borough of Hounslow. It is the home of Middlesex County Badminton, as well as local clubs, but also has a strong focus on local community participation particularly through supporting junior clubs in developing the players of the future.

We currently have around 400 adults and around 150 junior members all of whom are very embedded in the Dome and its developments. The running of the Dome is overseen by a small Committee of around seven players.

The Club

The Dome is a not-for-profit private members-club that fosters and promotes badminton at all levels within the community and within the sport, providing opportunities for recreation, coaching, competition and spectating.

Our dedicated facility is the home of Middlesex County Badminton, and hosts national Gold level tournaments. It has a specialist wood floor and takes great pride in having the best facilities for badminton in the South East.

We are looking for an experienced Sports Centre Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the Club and to maximise the experience and enjoyment of the members focussed on badminton.

The Opportunity

• The role is a combination of Sports Hall Facilities Manager and a member-focused Club Manager.

• To help re-build the business, you’ll be looking to identify ways to increase participation among new and existing user groups, both individual and corporate.

• You will also be looking for new income opportunities such as sponsorship from local businesses

• You’ll be managing a small team to ensure that Health and Safety and cleanliness standards are maintained at all times.

• At the same time you will ensure that you and the staff promote a welcoming feel to the centre.

• Given the nature of the role you may be required to be onsite at different times of the day, so the role may suit someone located locally.

• We anticipate this will be full-time role on a self-employed contract basis whilst the business rebuilds that might potentially transition to part-time as new staff are taken on.

Key responsibilities

• Onsite support at the venue when open for players

• Ensuring maintenance procedures are followed, liaising onsite with any third party vendors / suppliers.

• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety procedures is maintained

• Coordinating volunteer groups where necessary

• Acting as onsite point of contact for players and spectators, managing day to day issues, questions, complaints and minor accidents

• Managing small maintenance issues as they arise

• Providing regular updates and insights to the user base on the day to day running of the centre.

• Managing the on-line booking and membership system

The Person

• You'll need to be a self-starter, used to managing your own workload.

• You’ll need to be flexible and adaptable to the centre’s evolving requirements as we seek to re-build the business post pandemic.

• A hands-on manager you will be equally happy taking on and managing various small maintenance issues as they arise as you are building rapport with members and stakeholders.

• Experience of building membership and usage of a member-focused sports club.

• An understanding of racquet sports will be an advantage

Closing Date: 20th October 2021
