Hello, we're Halo!


Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire,Swindon and Gloucestershire on behalf of the local authorities. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders which means the money we make is ploughed back into the facilities where we largely reinvest this into Halo services.

This means users are helping to sustain leisure activities for everyone across the county to enjoy – from pre and post-natal exercise classes, babies in the ‘Swim-A-Song’ sessions, specialist exercise classes for people with MS, to toddlers at Gym Tots and to 55+ group exercise classes.

Facilities and Sustainability Manager

Salary - £49,298.88 per annum
37 hours per week


We are looking for an experienced Facilities Manager with proven asset management and development skills. You will need strong planning and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to lead your team to deliver on tight deadlines. As a key senior member of the operations team, you will own the asset life cycle for the company across a wide range of assets including buildings, plant, ICT and sports and activity equipment.

You’ll have a keen eye for detail as complying with our statutory obligations is critical in this role. At the same time, you’ll prioritise the customer experience by ensuring our presentation standards are set and met. You’ll be a key driver of our Safe, Clean, Open...Busy™ operational mantra.

You will refresh and oversee our asset service programme and will establish excellent working relationships with our customers, clients, contractors and partners.

Your approach to work exemplifies strong self management and you have the ability to perform under pressure.

Location and working arrangements can be flexible as whilst you will need to be able to travel to our centres and office locations for part of the working week, working from home using technology is perfectly acceptable.

We’re open to discussing on-the-job training with the right candidate, leading to a level 6 qualification, if you do not already hold such a qualification.

The role will report to the Operations Director.


Main Purpose:

• Manage our assets, ensuring a great environment to delight our customers


Main Responsibilities:


• Establish and implement team objectives, beat your own objectives
• Own the asset life cycle for the company
• Create and oversee the asset and maintenance service programme
• Manage significant infrastructure and improvement projects
• Make sure we meet all of our statutory obligations relating to engineering and assets
• Monitor, analyse and minimise utility expenditure
• Accurately project monthly utility expenditure
• Pitch in as needed to help out the company, your manager and your team
• Establish and maintain great relationships with contractors, partners and clients, checking that agreed work has been completed to a satisfactory level
• Lead, manage and engage your team, promoting our values and expectations
• Look after the wellbeing of your team
• Commit to your own development
• Design, deliver and complete company training programmes
• Be the link between the company and your team
• You and your team respect the privacy rights of customers and colleagues
• Take responsibility for your own performance
• Understand and contribute to our industry
• Propose, contribute to, implement and follow company policies, procedures and systems
• Prepare and present project plans
• Prepare tender documents
• Calculate and compare costs for required goods and services to achieve maximum value for money


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant degree in one of the following - building management, business studies, construction, engineering or building services engineering, facilities management. Not yet got a (relevant) degree? We’re open to discussing on-the-job training with the right candidate, leading to a level 6 qualification.
