2014 preparations 'making progress'
Preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are "making progress" but need to be properly managed to ensure costs are kept under control, according to a new report.
Audit Scotland's Progress report on planning for the delivery of the XXth Commonwealth Games 2014 said organisers need to ensure all areas of delivery - including venues, security and ticketing - are brought together in order to manage risks through to the event and beyond. The report comes just after it was revealed the budget for hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games has increased to £454m due to uncertainty over the sale of domestic broadcasting rights.
Caroline Gardner, deputy auditor general, said: "In the current economic climate public sector finances are already under pressure and it is essential that the organisers keep costs under control. They need to continue to monitor and review the budget assumptions regularly."
