Anglian College announces sports plans
The College of West Anglia is planning to build two new campuses with extensive sports facilities at brownfield sites in Kings Lynn in Norfolk and March in Cambridgeshire.
The plans at each site include a large sports hall capable of hosting regional tournaments; a large fitness facility accessible to the community; a third-generation football surface; a multi-purpose hall to cater for table tennis, martial arts clubs and aerobics activities; and a climbing wall with a high ropes facility.
Andrew Gedge, head of faculty for sport, said: “This list of facilities is not exhaustive, and we are at the stage when community feedback from existing and potential clubs is critical on shaping the final designs.”
The College also plans to launch a new curriculum aimed at supporting the government’s Skills agenda in the run up to the Olympics.
Gedge added: “At a time when SkillsActive has been awarded a National Skills Academy and the Olympic machine is starting to gather pace, we will be offering two of only a few new facilities outside of London that will encourage an active lifestyle.
“With the support of a number of key players such as SportEngland, we hope that the campus will demonstrate the benefits of ‘joined up’ thinking, and we have had some positive discussions with a number of local clubs.”
