Asset sale to fund Brecon museum plans?
A number of council-owned properties in Brecon may be sold off to help raise funds for the proposed redevelopment of Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery.
Powys County Council (PCC) said it intended to sell the assets - some of which are "surplus to requirements" - to help support the scheme, which will help conserve the Grade II-listed attraction. Plans will include moving Brecon library to the museum to offer a joint learning resource facility, which will combine local reference materials and additional access to Powys Archives material.
Draft proposals have been put on display at Brecknock Museum and at Brecon library to enable local residents to have their say until 23 October. PCC board member for the arts Gwyn Gwillim said: "We wish not only to repair and conserve this historical building but to transform it into a museum and art gallery of the future, offering an unrivalled visitor experience.
"The council owns a number of properties within Brecon, some of which are surplus to requirement, and the intention is to use funds raised from the sale of these properties to support the conservation and development of the museum."
