Athletes get media savvy
Athletes from Tees Active Sports Academy have received training in how to deal with the media.
A workshop led by David Walker of Picture Farm included interactive sessions to explain what the media requires from sports people. The athletes interviewed each other and took part in mock press conferences as well as being questioned on topics such as their rivals, support given by their national governing bodies and their ultimate sporting ambitions. They also had to pose for a photoshoot. Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy manager, said: "Today's event has enabled the Academy athletes to experience how it feels to be interviewed by the press.
"They have been given some extremely helpful advice by David which will help them present a positive image of themselves and their sport."
