Barry receives £9m regeneration boost
The Welsh Assembly Government has announced that Barry, South Wales, is to become a focus of regeneration efforts after designating the local area as a new Strategic Regeneration Area (SRA).
Barry is the seventh SRA to be established by the assembly government across the country, which will see the town benefit from a long-term strategy to revamp the area using procedures pioneered as part of the Heads of the Valley and Mon a Menai initiatives. Efforts to revive and enhance tourism, leisure and recreational activities using Barry's waterfront and wider town are included as part of the SRA Action Plan for the area, unveiled by deputy minister for housing and regeneration Jocelyn Davies.
Davies said: "The SRA will focus on key communities in the town. We will work with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and other key partners to develop a fully integrated action plan for the town over the next few months. "The plan will address a number of key issues and will reflect the main regeneration needs and opportunities in the area. The programme will work to complement and add value to existing and planned activities which already contribute towards the regeneration of Barry."
