Benjys pulls out of Coffee Republic deal
Benjys, the privately owned sandwich bar operator, has pulled out of merger talks with the coffee chain Coffee Republic.
The two had been in discussions since the summer, but these had broken down over a 'question of price', said a spokesman for Benjys: 'Both sides has different views of the short-term prospects of Coffee Republic and simply couldn't agree on price.'
Benjys is backed by ECI Ventures, which owns a 65 per cent stake in the company and had hoped to use the merger to expand nationally. It owns 48 sites in the City and West End of London and is currently considering other ventures for expansion.
Meanwhile, Coffee Republic said it has been encouraged by recent trading levels and plans to give up its full listing and move to the Alternative Investment Market to cut costs.
