British sport 'on track' for 2012 success
UK Sport has announced that 20 Olympic and Paralympic sports achieved an overall rating of "green" as preparations continue ahead of the London 2012 Games.
The new Mission 2012 Panel said that "positive momentum" from last year has continued into 2011, with 11 of the 27 Olympic sports securing "green" status. A further 16 were rated "amber" and none were given a "red" rating, while half of the 18 Paralympic sports were also found to be in good health. The remaining nine were "amber".
UK Sport chief executive Liz Nicholl said: "Our Mission 2012 tracker boards show us that British Olympic and Paralympic sports are maintaining the momentum gained in 2010 and are clearly moving in the right direction. "2011 has already started well with Para-Cycling and Disability Athletics both exceeding their 2011 medal targets and Cycling also having returned from Holland having met theirs."
UK Sport is investing £100m a year in the four years leading up to the 2012 Games, which has been financed by the National Lottery, Exchequer and private income from Team 2012. Tennis has also been included as part of the Mission 2012 Tracker Boards, but receives no funding from UK Sport and is voluntarily participating in the assessment.
