Charges dropped against Thorpe Park staff
Charges against two Thorpe Park employees in connection with an accident on a ride in 2001 have been dropped.
Chris Edge and Keith Workman were facing charges of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act following an incident in which a gondola on the Zodiac ride became partially detached from supports.
No one was injured, though the two gondola passengers were left shaken.
Thorpe Park has welcomed the collapse of the criminal case against the two men, saying it accepts full responsibility.
In a statement, the park said: "Thorpe Park has taken full responsibility for the incident which happened on the Zodiac ride in September 2001, in which no one was seriously injured.
"Thorpe Park delivers more than 14 million rides to guests ecery season without incident and has an excellent safety record. The park is totally committed to the health and safety of its guests and the quality of all its operations."
A separate case against the park, part of the Tussauds Group, continues and will be heard at the Crown Court later this year.
The Zodiac ride has been in operation throughout the 2002 and 2003 seasons since the incident.
