Cuban rhythms on their way to UK shores
Havana Holdings and Conran Holdings have announced plans to bring one of the world’s most famous bars to London this autumn.
Floridita, founded in the late 19th century, was Cuba’s most famous bar for decades with a host of regulars including Ernest Hemingway, Al Capone and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
Now Cuban property developer and events operator, Havana Holdings, and London-based restaurant operator, Conran, aim to benefit from the recent interest in Cuban culture by opening a Floridita in the UK capital.
Andrew Macdonald, chief executive of Havana, said: “Floridita encompasses the vital ingredients of Cuba’s rich culture – music, cocktails and cigars.”
The plans are at an early stage, and the developers said in a statement that they are currently looking to finalise property negotiations.
“A prominent central London site has been identified, of which more details will be announced as shortly,” it said.
The original Floridita, in Havana, was voted among the world’s top ten bars in 1953, by Esquire magazine. Details: www.floridita.co.uk
