Dawson to retire from BALPPA
Colin Dawson, chief executive of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA), has announced that he will retire from the post in July 2010.
Dawson has been chief executive since 2001. He first joined BALPPA's management committee in 1991, after being appointed director of Thorpe Park in 1988.
Commenting on his tenure at BALPPA and his career, Dawson said his only regret was that it took him so long to find the attractions industry from his previous occupations.
"The last twenty years have been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my business career, which began in August 1958," he said.
"Commenting on Dawson’s decision, BALPPA chair, John Bollom, said: “Colin has guided the association for the last eight years, giving a period of stability and achievment in all aspects of the Associations work.
"In particular his contribution to Health & Safety and Parlimentary relations, together with his knowledge and contacts throughout the global industry will be sorely missed."
