Alcumus, a software and consultancy expert in health and safety risk management, has acquired Safety Management & Monitoring Services (SM&MS), which handles risk assessments for a number of leisure properties.

The acquisition comes as part of Alcumus’ strategy of moving into legislatively-driven compliance markets, particularly around property and workplace risk, complementing Alcumus’ current software, consultancy and monitoring services in this sector.

Based in Huddersfield, SM&MS was established in 1994 and has an 80-strong team. The company has supported more than 1,600 companies across 60,000 projects.

SM&MS operations director Beatriz Shorrock and business development director Richard Edwards will join the Alcumus leadership team.

“The addition of SM&MS represents a significant development in Alcumus’ GRC and Accredited Inspection strategy,” commented Alcumus CEO Martin Smith. “[It] will allow us to offer a truly holistic solution to address clients’ property-related business risks and legal obligations, whilst adding additional safety monitoring and H&S risk management services to those Alcumus already offer, including the Sypol CMS COSHH Management Service.”
