EFDS launches four-year framework
Earlier this month, sports minister Richard Caborn launched a new English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) framework.
Count Me In: the EFDS Development Framework 2004-2008 lays out the organisation’s objectives and targets for improving participation and training in and facilities for inclusive sport in England.
It also unveils plans to raise the profile of disability sport and generate additional income from fundraising and sponsorship.
Colin Chaytors, EFDS chief executive, said: “I believe our objectives are relevant to every sports policy-maker. It also demonstrates the support we can give and how we can work together to provide an inclusive sporting future for all disabled people in England.”
Richard Caborn said at the launch that the work of the federation had supported athletes competing in the Paralympics in Athens and that the new framework would ensure the next generation of British Paralympians will be ready for Beijing in 2008.
“This government is committed to ensuring that everyone is given the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity by removing barriers, widening opportunities and increasing choice,” he said.
“The EFDS has a crucial role to play in ensuring that disabled people enjoy the same sporting opportunities as their non-disabled counterparts.” Details: www.efds.co.uk
