EU exhibition for Scottish Fisheries Museum
Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther has opened its new temporary exhibition, called A Taste of Europe: Fish.
The exhibition features a range of artefacts, archive material, photographs and paintings to illustrate three themes - The Fish We Eat, exploring consumer choice through the ages; the Fish We Catch, looking at the political and environmental issues that impact the industry; and Who Catches our Fish, explaining how the labour has been transformed by migratory workers.
The exhibition is part of a EU-wide campaign which has seen nine similar exhibitions open simultaneously at different European museums.
All feature a series of specially produced "stations" developed at the Museum of Work in Sweden to encourage visitors to ponder a range of current trends in food consumption and questions about the future of what we eat as countries as well as individuals.
Each of the nine museums also feature a special exhibition on their own chosen food which has particular cultural and economic significance for that country for example Finland have chosen milk, Slovenia has honey and Portugal will exhibit the story behind olive oil.
