East Cowes waterfront proposals revealed
The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and national regeneration agency English Partnerships have submitted an outline planning application for the regeneration of the town centre and waterfront of East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
Called the East Cowes Project, £10m has already been invested by SEEDA with a further £40m expected from the private sector.
There could potentially be a number of leisure facilities, which will be decided after consultation with the local community.
Other partners in the scheme also include the island’s council and the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership.
The project is part of a wider programme to regenerate Cowes waterfront and will focus on a mixed-use development covering 970,000sq ft (90,000sq m).
There are a number of proposed improvements to the town centre, including the addition of a marine industries quarter, a high-speed ferry link.
SEEDA expects a final decision from the local planning authority by this summer. Details: www.coweswaterfront.co.uk
