Energy Fitness targets teenage girls
A health club in Hampshire is working with local secondary schools to target inactivity in teenage girls.
The Energy Fitness Centre, managed by Energy Fitness Professionals, has teamed up with seven schools to offer the Teen Fit programme.
Designed by the gym manager, Grace Austin, the programme caters for a group of 20 girls aged 15 and 16 over a nine-week period.
It begins with a health check and from then on, participants take part in a different exercise activity each week.
The aim of the project is to motivate pupils who may be losing interest in PE lessons at school and are therefore not doing the recommended amount of exercise.
Pupils will also be taught the importance of exercise, how to exercise safely and effectively to see maximum results and how to monitor their progress so they can set themselves goals.
At the end of the nine weeks pupils are given the option of joining the club at a discounted price.
The programme is being run in conjunction with the North East Hampshire School Sport Co-ordinator Partnership and Rushmore Borough Council. It is being funded by the National Lottery.
