English football clubs are investing more into their stadiums than their European counterparts, according to a report by Deloitte and Touche. While European clubs find that stadiums drain resources, English clubs are benefiting from investment giving the English premiership a 'significant competitive advantage' over European leagues. In the 1999/2000 season, stadium expenditure in England reached a record high at £141m, totalling £500m in investment over the last five years. Many English stadiums are running at 95 per cent capacity over the football season, and the half of the premiership teams that have not built a new stadium in the last five years, have plans underway for major redevelopment.
