Ethnic minority sports project for Wales
Black and ethnic minority communities are to provided more opportunities to become regularly active, thanks to a partnership led by the Sports Council for Wales (SCW).
The Active Communities Together programme, led by the SCW in collaboration with Communities First and Sport Cardiff, is focused on funding and supporting ethnic minority groups through projects that seek to improve activity.
Projects that fit the bill could be eligible to receive up to £1,000 in funding. There is a total of £10,000 available.
Cardiff People First, a group dedicated to improving the lives of black and ethnic minority individuals, were one of nine groups that received funding through the programme last year.
Kalpana Singh, a leader at Cardiff People First, explains how their Physical Activity Fund grant benefitted its members: "It is hard for our members to access services such as canoeing, yoga or dance classes and the only opportunity many of them have is within our group.
"We are centred on encouraging members to lead their lives regardless of their disability and the taster sessions provided opened their eyes to the possibilities available to them."
Tony Hendrickson of Communities First said: "The Physical Activity Fund will enable small community groups, who otherwise may not have access to resources, to deliver activities within their communities. We hope to build on the success of last year's programme by working with more groups to develop schemes which provide both social and health-related benefits."
