FA publishes MORI report
The Football Association has published the findings of its broadest ever report into the sport.
State of the Nation was compiled by MORI, and consisted of interviews with those involved at all levels of the game. The objectives were to research opinions of all major interest groups, identify key issues and highlight areas for future development.
The report highlighted widespread concerns over the financial structure of the sport, with spiralling wage demands and inflated prices for broadcasting rights identified as major issues.
At the elite end of the sport, over 90 per cent of participants said that the Premier League took a disproportionate amount of money available within the game.
At the grassroots level, facilities were seen to be lacking by certain groups, with non-league club officials particularly noting the need for greater investment.
The role of football clubs within the community was also examined and while the amount of work is clearly related to resources available, there is a common belief that with additional funding, the capacity for smaller clubs to work with the community would be increased greatly.
