FIA launches campaign to fight obesity
The FIA is to launch an innovative health and fitness campaign to significantly reduce the levels of obesity in Britain by the year 2010.
On the Move to 2010 aims to educate the general public about the enormous benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle, and subsequently reduce the number of overweight Britons from 20 million to 10 million.
Nigel Wallace, executive director of the FIA, believes the campaign will have an extremely positive impact on the entire industry. 'On the move to 2010 provides the perfect opportunity to galvanise the industry behind a common theme and illustrate that we are committed to playing a serious role in the quest to improve the nation's health.'
The campaign will be broken down into manageable components with a new challenge each year. In the first year, the lead campaign will focus on the worrying issue of childhood obesity in Britain. The FIA will launch a project called 'Adopt a School' in which member clubs and centres will be encouraged to work with a school in their area to highlight the dangers of inactivity and an unhealthy lifestyle.
'If we are successful in getting this message across to children throughout the country, this will have a massive bearing on the future health of the British population,' says Wallace. On the Move to 2010 will be officially launched at the FIA/LIW/Bodylife Supershow at the Birmingham NEC 16-18 September 2003.
