A major fire in Blackpool has gutted the Grab City leisure resort, forcing people living nearby to flee their homes.

The fire, which started at around midnight on 20 October, took 15 appliances nearly five hours to bring under control.

There were no reported injuries, although the manageress of Grab City had to be rescued from a rear flat. More than 30 people were moved from their homes to a nearby hotel.

The complex included an amusement arcade and Louis Tussaud's wax museum, both of which were destroyed. Nearby buildings were also affected in the blaze, which is thought to have done around £5m worth of damage.

Investigators are said to be treating the fire as suspicious.
