Funding secured for Hartsdown Leisure Centre
Hartsdown Leisure Centre in Margate is to undergo a £1.6m refurbishment.
Thanet Leisureforce plans to build a new gym to double the number of workstations currently on offer, as well as two new exercise studios for classes, a soft play facility and a café.
The existing reception and changing areas for the sports hall will also be revamped.
The project will be funded and managed by Alliance Leisure and the work will be carried out by design and build contractor Createability.
Cllr Shirley Tomlison, cabinet member for environmental services at Thanet District Council, said: "This project will bring substantial benefits for local people, with improved fitness facilities and the addition of new facilities at Hartsdown Leisure Centre.
"We want to see people in Thanet becoming more active and this work will provide a much more attractive environment for people to work out in the future and for families, who can use the new indoor play area. I look forward to seeing this project completed, bringing better sports facilities for local residents."
Completion is expected in early 2010.
