Fáilte Ireland launches new campaign
Fáilte Ireland, the tourism development agency, has launched a new campaign aimed at increasing the number of Irish people opting to holiday at home this year as a result of the economic downturn.
The agency revealed that the home market is currently worth more than 1bn euro (£917m) to the Irish economy, and believes that it will play an even greater role in 2009 as consumers look for greater value. A multi-platform advertising campaign will be at the centre of Fáilte Ireland's drive to promote holidaying at home, focusing on the multitude of events and attractions on offer around the country, while also emphasising the value and convenience of staying at home this year.
It follows research carried out by the agency that reported a 38 per cent decrease in the amount of Irish people who said they will definitely travel abroad this year. John Concannon, Fáilte Ireland director, said: "Irish consumers will be looking for value and quality more than ever before, and this will be the core of our home holiday campaign as we present Ireland to its own people as a convenient, good value alternative to an international holiday in 2009.
"We want Irish consumers to have the most up to date information available to them when and how they wish to receive it. Fáilte Ireland is completely overhauling its consumer site, making it much easier to use and providing a much more enhanced 'special offers' section." Image: Tourism Ireland/Holger Leue
