Getting active at the Forum
Tees Active's Young Persons Active Health Team hosted a number of activities at Billingham Forum recently as part of their mission to increase the physical activity levels and health of children in the area.
Activities included a Street Dance Show watched by over 250 people, a healthy cooking demonstration given by celebrity chef Mark Earnden and taster sessions for children and adults in activities such as team combat, spinning and street dance.
Chef Mark Earnden demonstrated that healthy eating is tasty and fun as he showed his enthusiastic audience how to prepare and cook chicken tikka massala, Italian meatballs with tomato sauce, salmon mustard and herb fishcakes. He event attempted to cook a garlic mushroom dish faster than Olympic swimming star Jemma Lowe can swim the 200m butterfly ... but unfortunately failed by 60 seconds!
The Active Street Dance Group also gave their first ever performance: street dance instructor and choreographer Laura Franklin said: "The group were really nervous as this was their first ever performance and it was in front of a huge crowd but they all came through with flying colours."
Paul Bambrough, Young Persons Active Health Manager said: "This fantastic event was made possible due to the support of the North Tees TPCT.
"We are working in partnership with North Tees TPCT to increase the physical activity of children across the borough. A couple of months ago none of these children had ever attempted street dance and today they have brought the house down with their performances."
Participants were also invited to ice skate and swim free of charge.
