Global Harmonisation
While at the IAAPA Exhibition in Orlando, Florida this month, I attended the Global Harmonisation meeting on the progress of world standards.
The USA is very much in the forefront with the ASTM and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with various countries that do not have their own standards in an effort to assist in the process of building a uniformity across other countries. Europe is in the process of reviewing their own standard, however, with so many countries in the European Union it is a slow process.
I gave a brief overview of the state of the Australian standards and the long process of developing standards for specific industry sectors. The ASTM were very interested in the National Audit Tool which was developed by the State Regulators Forum for use in all states of Australia. They have requested a copy to review which I consider is a compliment to the results of work between the State regulators and the Australian industry.
Much work is still in progress on acceleration factor involved in many high speed rides. We await further reports on this topic. My congratulations go to the IAAPA Expo Committee who delivered another excellent trade event and educational program. We look forward to the 2009 IAAPA Expo and move of location to Las Vegas. Watch out - the Aussies are coming!
