GestureTek’s digital signage installation at the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls came away with the Gold Apex Award for the Arts, Entertainment and Recreation category at the Digital Signage Expo’s (DSE) awards ceremony.

The company was announced as a finalist in two categories in January.

The ‘Virtual Dinosaur Dig’ installation featured two immersive gesture controlled virtual reality dinosaur experiences, with a 12' wide projection on a 3' high display platform that let multiple users reach over and into the projected display, to wipe away the virtual sand and dirt until they revealed a scattered selection of dinosaur bones.

Once all the bones were revealed the patrons could push the virtual bones into place, at which point the Triceratops materialised in its original form. The animated dinosaur then gave out a roar before quickly dissolving back into sand.

GestureTek also won Silver in the Food & Beverage Award category for an installation at the RichTree Natural Market Restaurant in Toronto.

"DSE award winners reveal what's new and state of the art in digital signage development, deployment and content creation," said Vincent John Vincent, CEO of GestureTek.

“To be winners in two Apex Award categories by a panel of industry experts is such an honour for all the GestureTek team.”
