Government launches play review
The government has launched a review into the state of the children's play areas in the UK.
Sponsored by the DCMS and the DfES, the review will last for around six to eight months and will be led by Tim Gill, director of the Children's Play Council.
The review will include extensive consultation with draw on the advice of experts in the field and take into account the views of parents and children to identify examples of good practice.
Frank Dobson MP, chairman of the review, said: ' Too many children, particularly in deprived neighbourhoods, don't have the top quality places that they are entitled to expect.'
On the strength of its findings, the government will propose a strategy to feed into the planned policy on children's play, for which around £200m has been set aside. Details: +44 (0)20 7211 6274 or www.culture.gov.uk
