Digital fitness products manufacturer eGym has added an isokinetic training mode to its range of strength equipment.

The Munich-based firm says isokinetic training offers a number of advantages compared to traditional weight-based equipment, including a reduced strain on joints, more precise measurement results and the ability to measure strength in all joint positions.

The isokinetic mode on eGym machines varies the resistance to maintain a constant speed of movement - if the user pushes very hard against the machine it will generate a lot of resistance in order to maintain the set speed and conversely the machine reduces the resistance to maintain speed when pushed or pulled gently.

eGym has designed the mode with athletes and sports players in mind, because this form of training can improve power and acceleration. It says another application of isokinetic training is for the assessment of older populations and those recovering from injury due to the ability to easily quantify progress.

Both isotonic and isokinetic resistance are available on eGym’s machines. Each member can choose which type of training they want to do by selecting the appropriate setting.
