Kids swim for free in Redcar and Cleveland
Nearly 20,000 children benefited from free swimming lessons this summer at facilities in Redcar and Cleveland through a scheme run by Tees Valley Leisure and Tees Primary Care Trust.
The free lessons were on offer at Eston Sports Academy, Saltburn Leisure Centre, Loftus Leisure Centre and Guisborough Swimming Pool.
Paddy Corcoran, Tees Valley Leisure’s managing director, said: “This has been an incredible summer of activity for these youngsters who made the most of the leisure facilities on offer. At a time when children’s health and obesity dominates the headlines, this is a phenomenal show of what can happen when you encourage kids to get active.
“Tees Valley Leisure was delighted to work in partnership with the Primary Care Trust to give a positive demonstration of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. This year built on similar initiatives from previous years which shows the value of these free swim schemes.”
Every swimmer that took part had the opportunity to complete a record card which gives them a package including 10 free swims to be used up to Christmas to encourage them to carry on the healthy lifestyle habit they have picked up over the summer. Details: www.teesvalleyleisure.co.uk
