King's Lynn Town House Museum to shut
The Town House Museum in King's Lynn, Norfolk, is to close, and a new gallery established in the Town Hall.
Derrick Murphy, deputy leader of Norfolk County Council and cabinet member for cultural services, said: "We understand that these are difficult times for all local authorities and that the Borough Council wants to make more efficient use of its buildings.
"While it is disappointing that the Town House Museum is going to close, it does offer an opportunity to provide an improved Town Hall complex.
"Overall, the proposals would bring more people into one of King's Lynn's most important historic buildings, and we have been assured that there would still be opportunities for museum displays within the Town Hall."
The Town House Museum displays the social history and domestic life of Lynn’s merchants, traders and families from medieval times to the 1950s. Over the past few years, it has averaged around 7,500 visits per year.
