Leader of London’s Olympic bid announced
Barbara Cassani, former boss of British Airways’ budget subsidiary, GO, has been appointed to lead London’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Granada’s former chair, Sir Charles Allen, who ran the Commonwealth Games in Manchester last year, has been named as the American’s deputy.
Cassani said: "I have taken this job because I know we can win. London is a world-class city and we can deliver a world-class Games. The children of Britain need to get into the pool and onto the track because in 2012 they will be competing for gold – in London."
Her appointment was made jointly by the Mayor of London, the British Olympic Association and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
The International Olympic Committee will announce the name of the host city for the 2012 Games in July 2005.
