Maritime Museum launches online resource for students
The National Maritime Museum (NMM) has created an online resource to support students and teachers in partnership with the Travel and Tourism Programme (TTP).
The museum’s education department and the TTP developed the resource with the support of the Learning and Skills Development Agency to support vocational studies in leisure, tourism and business-related areas. It offers access to a range of information, activities, press releases, press cuttings and promotional material.
Students and teachers can access case studies and a virtual resource chest – containing visitor research, admission figures and posters, flyers and newspaper and radio adverts. Students can also complete tasks on screen.
Director of the TTP, John Humphreys, said: “I feel the quality of the resource can act as a benchmark for other venues and attractions and shows other ways in which the industry needs to support schools and colleges to help them provide quality industry recruits for the future.”
Roy Clare, director of the NMM, added: “These free resources are part of Museum’s commitment to meet the needs of the education market – in this case the growing number of vocational courses. We plan to develop these further, to add additional modules and to respond to feedback from teachers and pupils.”
