Mayor urges businesses to exploit 2012
London mayor Boris Johnson has called upon London businesses to take advantage of new opportunities that have come about as a result of the city's preparations to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It is part of a London Development Agency (LDA) bid to help businesses in the capital to survive the economic downturn, and includes the chance for small and medium-sized firms to secure contracts for the 2012 Games. Johnson is also looking to ensure that investment in major projects currently underway in the capital, including Crossrail, the upgrade of the London Underground and the 2012 Olympics continues to support jobs and businesses.
He said: "The 2012 Games will be a real shot in the arm for London's businesses during these difficult times and I am sure they are going to provide a major boost for all of us who are determined to lead London out of this recession." LDA chair, Harvey McGrath, added: "We are investing more public money in support programmes to help London's businesses survive and prosper. This help can mean the difference between success and failure, so companies should know that free advice and support is available."
