Millennium Commission exhibition at Tate Modern
The Millennium Commission, which distributes funds from the National Lottery, is to have an exhibition at the Tate Modern dedicated to its work.
The exhibition, entitled Out of Time, will be at the Tate Modern from 1-19 December and will coincide with the run-up to the Commission’s 10th anniversary.
Featuring a dramatic display of 70 images concerning the Commission’s diverse project funding – from Sparky the Muncaster Barn Owl to the biomes of the Eden Project – the exhibition’s images will be displayed alongside creative photography and artwork by a selection of Millennium Award winners.
The Award winners were picked from over 30,000 people who have won them so far, and have been selected because of the winner’s use of art and photography to tackle social issues and raise awareness of cultural diversity, while achieving their own personal goal.
The innovative Tate Modern exhibition will also feature inflatable display walls and will travel to other millennium commission-funded venues in the 2004.
Secretary of State for Culture, Tessa Jowell, said: “Not enough people know where their Lottery money has gone. When people visit the Out of Time exhibition. I believe they will be impressed by the size, scale and diversity of the Millennium Commission’s investment which has changed the landscape of the UK.” Details: www.tate.org.uk
