New Olympic collection for Cornwall’s National Maritime Museum
The National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC) has announced a new 2004 exhibition of Olympic racing boats and other competitive racing paraphernalia called Will to Win.
Designed to honour the Olympic Games, the new exhibition will open on 31 January and focus on the heroes and heroines behind the world of small boat racing.
Five Olympic boats will be on display – including those in which Ben Ainslie and Shirley Robertson won gold medals at Sydney 2000 – alongside a number of other famous competitive and medal-winning boats.
The main gallery of the museum, Flotilla, is currently in the process of being transformed to make the most of the new Will to Win exhibition.
Head of exhibitions at the museum, Jo Quinton-Tulloch, said: “This collection is one of the most exciting we have worked on. We have always told the stories of the people behind the boats and Will to Win highlights some of the finest examples of human endurance and the commitment to crossing the finishing line first.”
