New golf course development for Greece
The first of several new golf courses planned for Greece is being built at The Crete Golf Club with support from the Greek government and tourist industry. The last of only four 18 hole golf courses in Greece was built in 1979. The course is being developed by a group of local hoteliers and the City of Hersonnisos and has been designed by British golf designers, PGA Golf Management. The new £8m course, set to be ready for play in March 2003, will be a par 72 championship standard at 6,400yds long. There will be two driving ranges and a golf academy with practice putting greens and short game practice area. Bob Hunt, head of golf design at PGA Golf Management says the company has followed its design philosophy of environmental friendliness.
