New year opening for £3.5m Bannatyne club in Suffolk
Bannatyne Fitness has announced it is to open a £3.5m health club in Lowestoft, Suffolk. The club, which is currently under construction on a three-acre site, is set to open in January 2003.
With capacity for up to 3,000 members, the new development will include a gym, 20m swimming pool, spa pool, sauna and a steamroom, plus aerobics and spinning studios.
Bannatyne has also acquired nearly two acres of the Buchanan Business Park in Stepps, Glasgow. The new club will represent the first stage in the regeneration of the former whisky-bottling complex.
As well as a fully-equipped gym, the club will include a swimming pool and bistro. It is scheduled to open in April 2003.
Currently, Bannatyne Fitness has in excess of 50,000 members at 30 health clubs, which are either open or under development, in the south east of England, Scotland, the North East and the Midlands and aims to have 40 fully-operational clubs by 2005.
'The growth in the leisure industry over the last few years has been phenomenal,' says chief executive, Duncan Bannatyne. 'We have been attracting new members all over the UK - people who are keen to get fit in a high-quality environment suited to the stresses of modern working life.' Details: +44 (0)1325 356677
