Olympic champion coach joins GB swimming team
The coach who helped American swimmer Janet Evans achieve six world records and four Olympic gold medals is to join the British high performance team.
Bud McAllister helped Evans to dominate middle and long distance swimming in the late 1980s and early 1990s – her world records for the 800m and 1500m freestyle still stand.
McAllister will join the performance team at the Wales National Pool, Swansea in March.
British performance director Bill Sweetenham welcomed his arrival, saying: "Bud is a great addition to the British Swimming programme and will bring a tremendous level of expertise and experience. His track record speaks for itself."
McAllister, whose previous position was the head of the Canadian national squad, said: "I'm very excited about the new role. I think I'm facing one of the best opportunities of my career and I'm looking forward to getting started.
"I've witnessed tremendous improvements in British Swimming over the past six years. Every time I see the British in action I'm more and more impressed."
