Operator charged after ride death
The operator of a mini-carnival has been charged with manslaughter after a 10-year-old girl died in an incident on Christmas Day in Barangay Dela Peña, Marikina City, The Philippines.
According to ABS-CBN News, four employees of RLM Amusement – which owns the traveling amusement park – have been detained for questioning after one child died and six others were hurt after being thrown off their car ride seats.
The broadcaster reported that an initial police investigation showed that a bolt on the mechanical arm of the ride, called Octopus, gave way causing four baskets to hurtle up to 10ft.
The other five mini-carnivals adjacent to the one operated by RLM have received the green light to resume operations following a safety inspection by city’s officials.
