PKF: Challenges remain despite strong May
PKF Hotel Consultancy Services has warned that UK hotel operators will continue to face challenges going forward, despite preliminary figures reporting strong trading during May.
Rooms yield in London increased by 16.5 per cent for the month - the second consecutive month of double-digit growth, with room rate up 14.8 per cent to £138.50. While all hotel classes across the capital saw rooms yield increase, it was the luxury sector that was "particularly buoyant" in May - compared with the same period last year.
Meanwhile, hotels across the rest of the country also saw rooms yield increase, along with a 2.1 per cent growth in occupancy to offset a 0.8 per cent decline in room rate. PKF Hotel Consultancy Services partner Robert Barnard said: "This is the most positive set of results so far this year, particularly for London.
"That said, significant challenges remain - particularly for operators outside London that are reliant on the challenging MICE - meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions - and corporate markets." Image: Chen Wei Seng/Shutterstock.com
