PWC: Diamond Jubilee 'not the golden prize many expect'
Image: A Thames flotilla will mark the celebrations
London's hoteliers are set to benefit from next month's Diamond Jubilee celebrations but it won't be the "golden prize many expect", according to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
The business advisory firm said the main challenge for hotel operators will be to fill rooms, while restaurants and bars are expected to benefit most from the influx of visitors.
More than 1,000 boats are due to participate in a flotilla down the River Thames on 3 June in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, which marks The Queen's 60-year reign.
Compared with last year's Royal Wedding, PwC said it was primarily hotels along the route that benefited, If the effect is replicated for the flotilla, only around 10 hotels are situated by the river.
Liz Hall, head of hospitality and leisure research at PwC, said: "It should be a good weekend for London hotels, but not the golden prize many expect.
"The effect won't be as big as it could be if the economic situation was stronger and people had more disposable income.
"The challenge for hoteliers is to fill their rooms. Looking back to the Royal wedding last year, it was mainly hotels along the route that benefited.
"If that is the case this time round, there are only about 10 hotels along the river between Battersea and Tower Bridge and not all of those hotels/rooms will have a river view."
