Portsmouth points deduction confirmed
Portsmouth Football Club (PFC) has been deducted nine points by the Premier League after London's High Court ruled the club's decision to enter administration was valid.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has suspended its bid to have the troubled Premier League club wound up following the court's decision, despite being owed millions of pounds in unpaid tax. A spokesperson for the Premier League said: "Following the High Court's decision that Portsmouth FC's administration is valid the Premier League Board convened today to apply the League's rules and policies.
"As part of this process the board met with the administrator to agree how we will work together for the remainder of the season to ensure that the club is able fulfil its commitments." The Premier League has also confirmed that new rules to help prevent member clubs running into similar financial troubles in future are to be implemented from the start of the 2010-11 season.
Clubs will be forced to submit audited accounts and future information to prove commitments will be met for the following season are among the measures to come in from next season. Meanwhile, Farnborough Football Club of the Zamaretto League Premier Division has announced that a winding up petition brought against it by Guideline Coaches has been dismissed.
According to a club statement, the issue had been settled ahead of the High Court hearing but had to be "formally concluded" due to the court process.
