Ricoh Arena Exhibition Hall renamed following technology deal with Ericsson
Wasps’ new netball team will play its home games in the renamed Ericsson Exhibition Hall as a result of a “seven-figure” deal between the Ricoh Arena and the technology giant.
The 12,000-capacity arena – which is located inside the Coventry-based stadium where Wasps Rugby plays – was originally called the Jaguar Exhibition Hall, but a naming rights arrangement forms part of a larger partnership.
As part of the deal, Ericsson will improve the performance of wifi coverage, both in the indoor arena and the outdoor stadium.
It will also “break down the barriers of mobile data” so that fans can receive “specific, popular content” at the same time, enhancing the fan engagement element for Wasp’ rugby and netball team, as well as Coventry City Football Club.
According to Wasps Group commercial director Luke Organ, the deal had “taken well over a year to conclude”.
“It will ensure that our sports fans and venue customers experience some of the best connectivity found in any venue in the UK,” he added.
David Armstrong, Wasps chief executive, said: “It has long been our ambition to ensure that the Ricoh Arena is a venue that ensures high-performing technology, connectivity and interaction are at the forefront of our customers’ experience.”
